Does stress come from our life’s circumstances or is stress created by our thinking?

We often think about stress as something we "catch" by experiences ours life's circumstances. We go to work, we feel stressed. We have kids so we obviously feel stressed with parenting. We have a talk with our boss or have to much work to do so again, we feel stressed.

When we look at stress through that lens, we are saying life has this power to make us feel stressed (or insert any emotion/feeling). When we believe that we go through life trying to control everything in order to limit those unwanted feelings.

But, what if I told you if you are feeling stressed it's because you are having stressful thoughts. If you are happy, it's because you are having happy thoughts. Therefore, the only reason you feel stressed is because you are having stressful thoughts. We are living in the feeling of our personal thinking from moment to moment. And guess what? Thoughts come and go all day long. As soon as your thoughts change, your emotions change with it. So don't trust every thought you have don't look "out there" when you are having unwanted feelings. Understand that it's only your thoughts and nothing more. They will pass. There's no need to "do" anything about unwanted emotions.

Be present in whatever you are doing. When you are present, those unwanted feelings can't be in the same space. They can't coexist.

Food for thought:

The next time you are feeling stressed, remember that it's only your thoughts. Your consciousness is making it seem as though something "out there" is causing your stress. When you realize it's only your thoughts, and they can never be completely trusted, you'll stop trying to control everything "out there".

Stay tuned for more.
