A Quiet Mind

I'm on Michael Neill's email list and oftentimes find real gems when I read them. I read one recently on having a quiet mind. This is what Michael said...

"The more we have on our mind, the harder it is for us to enjoy our lives"

"The more we have on our mind, the more annoying other humans tend to appear and the harder it is to connect with the people around us"

But, the opposite is also true...

"The less we have on our mind, the better life gets"

"The less we have on our mind, the more able we are to simply take people as they come and relate to them appropriately"

I've seen these statements play out all the time in my life. When it comes to parenting and my mind is pre-occupied with persistent thoughts, I am much more short tempered and I get annoyed much quicker. When I'm in a "thought storm" the world looks bleak, depressing, and I start to think about everything that "annoys" me (when I now in fact it is my thinking that is annoying me not XYZ). I get hyper focused on how things are the way I want them to be.

But, when my mind is clear and I'm present, my God given wisdom comes through almost effortlessly. This is how we were created. To be present and in relationship. NOT to be fixated on the things of this world that "seem to" make us feel XYZ. But we spend most of our time fixated on everything that looks negative to us. The amazing thing is, there is nothing for us to do. We don't have to go to a certain place to find a quiet mind. We don't need a technique to clear our mind. We don't need a technique to become present and stay there. We don't need anything. Our mind will clear when it clears, is our default system. Just like our physical wounds heal when we leave them alone, our mental wounds will heal when we stop trying to fix ourselves. We will become present when we become present. And when our mind clears, the world looks so different. We see the joys of life everywhere. We see how amazing people are and see the good in them.

Your mind will quiet if you let it. Don't force it, don't try to think your way out of a busy mind. Let your thoughts come in and go out without paying too much attention to them. And when your mind clears, simply enjoy it.

Until next time,

Jackson Brown
