Before I learned about the Three Principles of Mind Consciousness and Thought, I was looking to the world to fix my problems. I heard an interesting quote not that long ago that goes something like this..."We are looking for certainty in an uncertain world". When you really think about that quote it doesn't make much sense. If the world is full of uncertainty, which I think many people would agree, why do we look to the world to fix our problems?
We have all the answers we need inside of us. The Three Principles teaches that we feel our thinking. No exceptions. No buts. No "well that doesn't apply to my life and here is why that doesn't work for me". The amazing thing behind that is when we feel our thinking and NOT our circumstances, our circumstances don't have the hold on us we once thought they did. Situations that we "thought" scared us, caused us stress and anxiety, no longer do that to us (without us thinking about it).
The answers we seek are within. Look within. Mental health is already inside of you. We are all perfectly mentally healthy until we get caught up in our thinking and believe every thought we have is true, a reflection of something out in the world, a pointer to something wrong with us, etc. There is nothing wrong with you! We feel our thinking. Once I understood that, I didn't take my thinking so seriously anymore. I knew they were but fleeting thoughts and they passed much quicker without me trying to analyze and "fix" the world.
Every "fix" we think that we find is based on a misunderstanding. That misunderstanding is that anything outside of our thinking can cause you to feel a certain way. Whether that is our past, our current circumstances, the weather, our boss, our job, our life, what we have or don't have, etc. This is why Michael Neill said there is nothing to do, nothing to practice, nothing to master. It's a simple misunderstanding that we have been taught in life to believe. And with it being a simple misunderstanding, we can change that understanding and gain clarity into why we feel what we feel (hint...it's our thinking).
So, when someone, whether they have professional authority or not, say "here is the next best thing in psychology that will help you with whatever you are struggling with" it stands on a faulty foundation. It will work if you want it to, but there are times it won't and you'll have to find the "next best thing".
Look within, the answer is already inside of you.
Until next time,
